Mayfield Ground Source Heat Pump System

  • 3 x 100m boreholes
  • 1 x 13KW Stiebel-Eltron ground source heat pumps
  • 1 x 300l cylinders
  • 1 x 200l heating buffer
  • 4KWp solar PV system
  • EV charging point

We were approached by the customers after they made the decision to invest in making their cottage as eco-friendly as possible and reducing their carbon footprint as far as possible.

They wanted to remove their reliance on fossil fuels, installing a ground source heat pump, supplemented by a solar PV array and swapping their petrol cars for electric cars using a fully green ariff.

The cottage, although old, had good loft insulation, some cavity wall insulation and double-glazing. The heat loss was quite high and we needed a bit more oomph than we could get from an air source heat pump. We therefore went for a Stiebel-Eltron ground source solution, utilising 3 x 100m boreholes in the paddock adjacent to the house while upgrading radiators to give us enough heat into each room at the lower flow temp of a heat pump - typically 50C as against 70C of a fossil fuel boiler.

We also installed a solar PV array on the garage barn nearby, battery storage, and two charging points for the new electric cars.

The customer now has a very cozy cottage and plenty of hot water along with solar electricity to offset the running costs and help charge the cars.
