Industrial Unit Converted to Family Home | BioSun Energy

• Under floor heating throughout

In this project, just outside Tunbridge Wells, Kent, the customer was converting a light industrial unit into a wonderful, light and airy family home.

With no gas grid nearby and being unwilling to use an oil boiler, the customer approached us asking for a renewables solution. As the house was being well insulated and having underfloor heating throughout the ground floor it was ideal for an air source heat pump.

The black industrial-style cladding on the side of the house was perfectly suited to the new Vaillant aroTherm Plus air source heat pump we installed, which looked very smart.

The house included a wonderful sunken sitting area with log fire; a wine cellar accessed via a glass "lid" over a spiral staircase; and two mezzanines with bedrooms and ensuites.

With a large, open plan building to work with we were able to create a neat plant room next to the utility containing all the internal kit - heat pump cylinder, buffer, expansion vessels, underfloor heating (UFH) manifold, pipework, pumps etc. The heat pump provides all the heating via UFH downstairs and radiators on the mezzanines, along with plenty of hot water.
